Louis Bistro & Steakhouse - Alnwick
| Louis steakhouse takes its name from the café that occupied the premises during the nineteen fifties, owned by Louis Becarelli. The café is still to this day fondly remembered by the people of Alnwick, especially for its delicious hand made ice cream, that was made to the family’s traditional Italian recipe. Louis Steakhouse is the concept of Alnwick Butcher Mark Turnbull. The family butchers are situated across the road at Market Street and were established in 1880. The family business has ties with Louis Café, as Louis Becarelli helped Bobby Turnbull (Mark’s Granddad) acquire the butchers current day location during the nineteen fifties. Mark wanted to create a restaurant that had hands on control over the quality and origin of its steaks, which was passionate about steak, and a restaurant that would serve a good variety of steak cuts from a number of different breeds. The restaurant has a contemporary feel about it in a building steeped in history. Its only decoration is a collection of specially commissioned contemporary abstract art by local artist, the late anthony john cartmel-crossley. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the service formal but friendly. |
